Developmental and hyperthermia-induced expression of the heat shock proteins HSP60 and HSP70 in tissues of the housefly Musca domestica: an in vitro study Genet. Mol. Biol.
Sharma,Sunita; Rohilla,Manoj Singh; Tiwari,Pramod Kumar.
The expression pattern of two major chaperones, the heat shock proteins (HSPs) HSP60 and HSP70 was studied in vitro in tissues of the housefly Musca domestica during larval and adult stages of development to identify their immunological relatives and understand their functional significance in normal cellular activities and during thermal stress. Fluorographs of labeled polypeptides and western blots demonstrated that both HSPs are expressed constitutively and heat-induced in all the larval and adult cell types examined. The pattern of whole tissue immunocytochemical staining using anti-HSP60 and anti-HSP70 antibodies corresponded well with the observations from western blots or fluorographs. In developing oocytes, both constitutive and heat inducible...

Heat shock proteins on beef quality PAB
Moncau,Cristina Tschorny; Rosa,Alessandra Fernandes; Eler,Joanir Pereira; Balieiro,Júlio César de Carvalho.
Abstract: The objective of this work was to quantify heat shock proteins (HSP) 27 and 70 in the Longissimus dorsi muscle of cattle during aging and to check their potential as biomarkers for meat quality. A total of 191 steers ½ South African Simmental x ½ Nellore (16-18 months, 391.7±99.7 kg), castrated, and feedlot finished were used. Meat quality was measured by pH, color, cooking loss, and shear force (SF) at 1 and 14 days of aging time. HSP27 and HSP70 were quantified according to the SF values in the more and less tender meat groups, with 20 samples each, for each aging time. HSP27 concentrations in more and less tender meat decrease from 1 to 14 days of aging, and do not differ when evaluated at the same period. HSP70 concentrations in more tender...

Hsp70 Genotypes and Heat Tolerance of Commercial and Native Chickens Reared in Hot and Humid Conditions Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Avic.
Duangjinda,M; Tunim,S; Duangdaen,C; Boonkum,W.
ABSTRACT Heat tolerance in poultry production was obtained attention due to the need for genetic lines that can withstand climate changes. This study aimed at investigating heat tolerance in commercial and native broiler genetics, as well as the physiological and growth performance responses of HSP70 genotypes submitted to heat stress. In Experiment I, heterophil:lymphocyte (H:L) ratio, as an indicator of heat tolerance, was compared between commercial broilers (n = 100) and Thai native chickens (n = 100). Growing chickens (with similar initial weight) of each genetic strain were randomly divided into two groups: 1) thermoneutral environment (26 oC ± 2 oC) and 2) heat stress (36 oC ± 2 oC). The results showed that native chickens originating from a...

Influence of temperature, salinity and E. coli tissue content on immune gene expression in mussel: Results from a 2005-2008 survey ArchiMer
Li, Hui; Toubiana, Mylene; Monfort, Patrick; Roch, Philippe.
Several bivalves, including mussels, suffered from mortalities particularly in summer. To look for the possible effect of environmental parameters on immune capacities, Mytilus galloprovincialis were collected monthly from August 2005 to July 2008 from the Palavas Laguna, French Mediterranean coast. Q-PCR was used to quantify the expression of three antimicrobial peptide genes (defensin, mytilin B and myticin B), in addition to lysozyme and HSP70. House keeping gene was 28S rRNA. Defensin, myticin B and lysozyme appeared more expressed in spring-summer than in winter. In contrast, HSP70 expression was higher in winter. Statistical studies using principal component analysis (PCA) and multiple regression models revealed positive influence of temperature on...

Physiological stress responses in the warm-water fish matrinxã (Brycon amazonicus ) subjected to a sudden cold shock Acta Amazonica
Inoue,Luis Antonio Kioshi Aoki; Moraes,Gilberto; Iwama,George K.; Afonso,Luis Orlando Bertola.
The present work evaluated several aspects of the generalized stress response [endocrine (cortisol), metabolic (glucose), hematologic (hematocrit and hemoglobin) and cellular (HSP70)] in the Amazonian warm-water fish matrinxã (Brycon amazonicus ) subjected to an acute cold shock. This species farming has been done in South America, and growth and feed conversion rates have been interesting. However, in subtropical areas of Brazil, where the water temperature can rapidly change, high rates of matrinxã mortality have been associated with abrupt decrease in the water temperature. Thus, we subjected matrinxã to a sudden cold shock by transferring the fish directly to tanks in which the water temperature was 10ºC below the initial conditions (cold shock from...

Rapid metabolic adaptation in European sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) juveniles fed different carbohydrate sources after heat shock stress ArchiMer
Enes, P; Panserat, S; Kaushik, Sadasivam; Oliva Teles, A.
A study was conducted to evaluate the effect of two dietary carbohydrate sources (waxy maize starch and glucose) on the metabolic adaptation of sea bass juveniles (initial weight: 24 g) to a heat shock treatment (temperature rise from 18 degrees C to 25 degrees C within 24 h). Two isonitrogenous and isolipidic diets were fon-nulated to contain 20% waxy maize starch (WS diet) or 20% glucose (GLU diet). Triplicate groups of fish were fed to near satiation for 4 weeks at both temperatures (18 degrees C and 25 degrees C). Then, fish previously maintained at 18 degrees C were submitted to a heat shock (18 degrees C to 25 degrees C) and continued to be fed with the same diets during I more week. The higher water temperature significantly improved growth...

The effect of microgravity on tissue structure and function of rat testis BJMBR
Ding,Ye; Tang,Jin; Zou,Jun; She,Ruiping; Wang,Yinghua; Yue,Zhuo; Tian,Jijing; Xia,Kangkang; Yin,Jun; Wang,Desheng.
To explore whether an environment of weightlessness will cause damage to the reproductive system of animals, we used the tail-suspension model to simulate microgravity, and investigated the effect of microgravity on the tissue structure and function of the testis in sexually mature male rats. Forty-eight male Wistar rats weighing 200-250 g were randomly assigned to three groups (N = 16 each): control, tail traction, and tail suspension. After the rats were suspended for 7 or 14 days, morphological changes of testis were evaluated by histological and electron microscopic methods. The expression of HSP70, bax/bcl-2 and AR (androgen receptor) in testis was measured by immunohistochemistry. Obvious pathological lesions were present in the testis after the rats...

This study attempted to clarify the appearance of 70 kDa heat shock protein (HSP70) in spermatozoa and its relationship with the semen quality in crossbred Holstein Friesian (HF) bulls. Semen from 10 HF bulls was collected 8 weeks during rainy (THI = 79.06), winter (THI = 74.30), and summer (THI = 80.05). Semen quality was evaluated in terms of semen volume, sperm concentration, sperm motility, sperm viability, and percentage of abnormal spermatozoa. It was found that mass movement of sperm in the summer and rainy seasons were significantly lower than in the winter (P<0.01). The percentage of abnormal sperm were significantly lowest in the summer (P<0.01). The western blot analysis of the levels of HSP70 in spermatozoa found that it was significantly...
